The Tomb of Tutankhamun at a glance
The tomb of Tutankhamun is KV62, in the Valley of the Kings on the West Bank of Luxor. Howard Carter found it in November 1922. The picture at the top of this page shows wall paintings in the burial chamber, the room that the official description highlights together with the quartzite sarcophagus.
You cannot enter the tomb with the basic valley ticket alone. KV62 has its own fee, which you buy in addition to the valley entry. The tomb is part of the Valley of the Kings visit, so read our Valley of the Kings page for hours and general rules.

What the Tutankhamun ticket costs
Posted prices for foreign visitors, single visit, in Egyptian pounds (2026). The photograph beside the previous section is a historical image of the valley from the 19th century.
| Item | Adult | Student |
|---|---|---|
| Valley of the Kings entry | 750 EGP | 375 EGP |
| Tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62), extra | 700 EGP | 350 EGP |
| Total for both | 1,450 EGP | 725 EGP |
| Electric tram (travel writers' figure) | 20 EGP | โ |
The total is our addition of the two posted prices. It leaves out the tram, other extra tombs, a guide and transport. The tram figure comes from travel writers, who list it per person for the round trip with a ride of about 3 minutes, and it is not part of the ticket. Students need a valid student ID, and ticket portals for other Luxor sites set the age limit at 24.

What you see inside
The ministry's description names the painted burial chamber and the quartzite sarcophagus. Travel writers also describe the mummy of the king as part of the visit on site.
Do not expect the full burial equipment, though. The ministry documented the transport of the outer gilded coffin to the Grand Egyptian Museum on 12 July 2019. That one example is enough to show that the tomb is no treasure chamber, and objects from the burial are not all in the tomb itself.
A visit is about the place: the burial chamber, the wall paintings and the fact that you are standing in the tomb that Carter opened. If you mainly want objects, ask yourself whether the 700 EGP buys what you are after.

How it compares with the other extra tombs
Four tombs in the valley area carry their own fee on top of the basic ticket. The painted corridor pictured above belongs to the tomb of Ramses V and VI.
| Tomb | Adult | Student |
|---|---|---|
| Tutankhamun (KV62) | 700 EGP | 350 EGP |
| Ramses V and VI (KV9) | 220 EGP | 110 EGP |
| Seti I (KV17) | 2,000 EGP | 2,000 EGP |
| Ay, West Valley | 200 EGP | 100 EGP |
If your budget is tight, one extra tomb is plenty. The basic ticket already lets you see regular tombs, and travel writers describe it as covering three of them.

Practical tips for the visit
The ministry lists daily opening from 06:00 to 17:00. Check the current timetable before you go, and ask at the entrance whether the tomb is open that day, because tomb openings in the valley are not guaranteed.
Photography follows the general rules for archaeological sites: personal, non-commercial photos, and inside without flash. Professional lighting and set-up equipment needs a permit. Ask the guard before you take out a camera inside the tomb. Do not assume that the rules in this tomb match those in another.
Tickets for the valley are sold at the ticket offices and through the ministry's online portal. Visa and Mastercard are listed for the portal, the app, the offices and the kiosks. Online tickets cannot be refunded or replaced if lost, so check the date before you pay.
To reach the West Bank from the East Bank, a public ferry crosses the Nile. An undated ministry brochure lists it from 06:00 to 23:00. Fares quoted by local guides vary from 5 to 10 EGP up to 10 to 25 EGP, so ask before you board.
Long-term averages for June to August reach about 41 ยฐC (106 ยฐF). If you visit in summer, start at 06:00 when the gates open. Our Luxor weather page has the monthly figures.
